Jesus Quotes

The following is a list of Jesus quotes that have been placed into categories based on what is said by Jesus.

(Note: This is not an exhaustive list of Jesus quotes.)

Do You Feel Burdened?

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

Don't Worry

"Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?'...indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:31-33)

"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Luke 12:6-7)

"And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?" (Luke 12:25-6)

God Knows Everything

"For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light." (Luke 8:17)

What Does Life Consist Of?

"Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." (Luke 12:15)

"For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing." (Luke 12:23)

These Jesus quotes tell us that life is much more than "things." Many of us have heard of at least one story of a rich person giving up on life. That's because all they had was stuff. It's healthy friendships and relationships with people that make us happy, not things.

Why Jesus Came

"For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost." (Luke 19:10)

"Anyone who comes to me I will never drive away." (John 6:31)

Of all the Jesus quotes, this one may be the most comforting. Jesus will never drive someone away.

"This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day." (John 6:40)

"So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:36)

A Doctor for the Sick

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

But when he (Jesus) heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'" (Matthew 9:11-13)

The Joy in Heaven

"I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7)

"I tell you, there is joy, in the presence of the angels of God, over one sinner who repents." (Luke 15:10)

These Jesus quotes show us that there is great joy in heaven when someone turns away from evil and obeys God.

It's a wonder that we often don't obey God, since the things God tells us to do are beneficial to everyone, whereas that which He tells us not to do is destructive to humanity (and ourselves).

What is Eternal Life?

"And this is eternal life, that they may know you (God), the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." (John 17:3)

Of the Jesus quotes, this one is very interesting. Eternal life is knowing God. It's all about relationship with God.

Life comes from God as a common grace to humanity. Eternal life is even a greater gift, which is actually an invitation to know God intimately through Jesus Christ.

Loving Others

"But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)

"For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?" (Matthew 5:46)

"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" (Luke 6:32)

Everyone finds it easy to love people who love them. However, loving someone who hates you, or your enemy, now that's significant.

Doing Good

"If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?" (Luke 6:33)

"If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you?" (Luke 6:34)

"But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High;

For He (God) is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." (Luke 6:35-36)

Does It Matter What We Watch or View?

"Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness." (Luke 11:34)

Is Being Perfect (not sinning) Really Impossible?

Jesus seems to think it's possible.

"Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." (Matthew 5:48)

And why not? Basically all sins are conscious decisions. If you decide to stop going to a particular restaurant for the rest of your life, is it so hard to believe you can stick with it all your life?

You can if you're committed to your decision.

Now, of course, all have sinned and are unworthy, which is why Jesus had to saves us. However, he also calls us to live a life in obedience to God. It seems he is saying, You're forgiven, now sin no more.

And out of thankfulness, we should show our gratitude by obeying him.

(Note: Perfection refers to "not sinning." Perfect isn't referring to not making mistakes. For example, you can be perfect (not sinning), and get an 'F' on a test. Failing a test is not a sin. Although wasting the opportunity God has given you might be.)

"Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I tell you?" (Luke 6:46)

His Promise

"They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them." (John 14:21)

Keep commandments = Love Jesus

(We show what we believe by what we do. If you don't believe you are a thief, but you steal, then your actions have proven what's really true.)

Blessings (The Beatitudes)

(Matthew 5:3-10)

* Blessed are the poor in spirit (humble),
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

* Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

* Blessed are the meek (humble, kind, gentle),
for they will inherit the earth.

* Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

* Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy.

* Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.

* Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

* Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

"Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." (Luke 11:28)

That's all of the Jesus quotes for now. There are obviously plenty more Jesus quotes in the Bible, but this will give you an idea of what he has said.
